General information

The Bachelor of Health Administration (BHA) program is a full-time degree program offering courses through online delivery formats as well as work-integrated learning experiences in healthcare institutions and agencies. The Health Administration program has been developed according to the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) health administration competencies framework with the goal of becoming a certified AUPHA program.

What does this mean for BHA graduates? AUPHA certification of the BHA program will increase the eligibility of graduates for entry into accredited master’s in health administration (MHA) programs, supporting further career development. The BHA program includes a work-integrated learning experience comprised of a 120-hour practicum experience and training in a health-care institution or agency to better prepare Ontario Tech University students for employment in the healthcare sector.

Health care is a dynamic and rapidly growing sector requiring frontline providers. Health Administration professionals, positioned to better meet current and emerging health care challenges, are needed. The BHA program is designed to prepare students for entry-level management positions in primary care, health clinics, hospitals, long-term care, and community social agencies. As well, the program will prepare students for health-related positions in municipal, provincial, and federal governments. Health Administration graduates will be able to work in areas of operations, management, and finance and planning, in a variety of healthcare sectors and fields.

Admission requirements

Admission is competitive. The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year to year. Students are selected by taking into consideration a wide range of criteria including school marks, distribution of subjects taken, and performance in subjects relevant to the academic program. Possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications.

Current Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits including English (ENG4U) with a minimum grade of 60 per cent, and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U) or Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U). All other applicants should refer to admissions for the requirements for their specific category of admission.
