NURS 2822U – Clinical Judgment in the Context of Health Assessment


This course is designed to enhance clinical judgment and assessment skills of RPN to BScN students as they prepare to transition into the role of the registered nurse. Grounded in Tanner’s Clinical Judgement Model and the Clinical Judgement Measurement Model, students will apply critical thinking to interpret findings from comprehensive health assessments. This course emphasizes a holistic approach to assessment of a patient, encouraging students to consider mental and physical health within the patient context.

Students will develop and refine effective communication strategies when gathering comprehensive health history and conducting the physical examination. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing normal vs abnormal findings, allowing students to create an individualized plan of care for patients facing diverse health challenges. This course will incorporate a wide range of assessment techniques within an inclusive, developmentally, and culturally appropriate environment.
