AUTE 4600U – Vehicle Systems Design

This course introduces typical design methods and calculation procedures for road going and off-road vehicles, including powertrain systems, steering mechanisms, suspensions, brakes, and advanced driver assistance devices. The student will develop the ability to design powertrains and understand chassis layout and construction arrangements, and be able to determine the governing parameters for achieving specified vehicle performance metrics by applying engineering principles, physical laws, standards, and design criteria with constraints. Typical approaches for evaluating vehicle propulsion systems, chassis layouts, and relevant sub-systems based on their constructional arrangements will be presented and practiced in the labs. Students will perform functional design analysis and gain further experience through completion of a course design project using advanced engineering analysis and simulation tools.
