KINE 4150U – Foundational Skills and Techniques for Massage Therapy


This course is designed to provide kinesiology students with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to bridge into year two of massage therapy at Durham College through the Kin/MT pathway. Students will learn about the principles of massage and how they are implemented in a massage therapy assessment and treatment. Students will be expected to demonstrate appropriate knowledge and practical skills involving draping and client positioning, massage techniques, implementing these techniques into a massage therapy treatment, and creating a massage therapy treatment plan. Students will also have an opportunity to refine previously learned skills from their other kinesiology courses such as health history, assessment, palpation, hydrotherapy and remedial exercise.
