PSYC 3070U – Stress and Coping

Stress is an unfortunate reality for all of us. And yet, despite the universal nature of feeling too much stress, very few of us are ever given guidance into the nature of stress, the effects of acute and chronic stress on the body, and—most particularly—of the ways in which we can productively cope with our stress. This course is designed as a hybrid academic/self-help course, where students will learn the underlying theory/science about stress, and also learn to apply some of the techniques for stress reduction in a personalized way. The goal is for students to come out of the course with a solid understanding of what stress is, and how it affects our body, and to also gain some improved insight and awareness into themselves, and into what they can do, individually, to reduce their own stress levels (or to at least better cope with stress when it occurs).
