HLSC 3480U – Principles of Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription This course is designed to provide students with a foundation in fitness assessment and exercise prescription. It prepares students to work in the fitness industry with healthy clients and introduces the topic of exercise modification for special populations. Lectures focus on principles of training related to endurance, strength, flexibility and balance. Laboratory sessions emphasize development of competency in submaximal fitness assessment and individualized exercise prescription. This course is heavily based on the Physical Activity Training for Health (PATH) manual produced by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to complete an examination that will lead to the designation of Certified Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.
