Description
Professional communication refers to written, oral, visual, and digital communication within professional contexts, from the 21st century workplace to the wider society. The minor in Professional Communication provides students with a foundation in mass communication and digital media studies and imparts professionally relevant communication knowledge and skills such as verbal and nonverbal communication, listening, resume writing, interviewing, negotiation, conflict resolution and compromise, audience studies, interpersonal and intercultural communication, teamwork and collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, writing, public speaking, strategy, PR and advertising, ethics, and multimedia presentation. This minor consists of seven courses (21 credit hours) and is available to all students in any major program in any faculty at Ontario Tech University. Communication is an essential 21st century skill required by every organization for every career, so the minor will be valuable to anyone who wants to learn about what communication and digital media are, how they work, and what it takes to communicate professionally and effectively. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 in the minor courses is required to successfully complete the Professional Communication minor.
