Program Learning Outcomes - Criminology and Justice


By the end of the program, students graduating will be able to:

  • Apply an in-depth knowledge of systems involved in the process and pursuit of justice, including roles and requirements of stakeholders and services.
  • Communicate effectively using oral, written and nonverbal skills necessary for justice professionals.
  • Comply with the norms, values, guidelines, codes of conduct, relevant professional codes, and ethical requirements in the workplace.
  • Utilize a systems approach in understanding and using the integration and co-operation of all of the agencies in the justice system.
  • Apply knowledge of the major concepts and theoretical perspectives including legal, sociological and political, underlying the justice system.
  • Apply specific skills required in the justice system and in the not-for-profit sector, such as advocacy, mediation, policy assessment and development, report writing, and research.
  • Conduct and interpret research related to justice.
  • Apply knowledge of the philosophical, societal and historical issues which impact the justice system.
  • Conduct analysis of policies and programs related to criminal and social justice.
