Bachelor of Arts (Social Science and Humanities)

General requirements

The following degree requirements outline the minimum number of course credit hours, breadth requirements and year-level courses needed in order to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities. Additionally, students will be required to complete the specific credits and other requirements deemed necessary by the program (Major/Minor) to which they are admitted.

Requirement I

120 credit hours.

Requirement II

At least one program as a major.

Requirement V

At least 36 credit hours at the senior level (i.e., 3000- or 4000-level courses).

Requirement VI

To ensure that breadth of learning continues past the first year, students are required to successfully complete nine credit hours in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities that:

  • Are not 1000-level courses.
  • Do not have the same course code as your major (major codes are COMM for Communication and Digital Media Studies; PSYC for Forensic Psychology; POSC for Political Science; LGLS for Legal Studies; CRIM for Criminology and Justice).
  • Are not listed as a requirement for your major (unless listed as exempt by a program’s specialization).

Double Majors and specializations within a major program that include at least nine credit hours from another program will count as this breadth requirement.

Requirement VII

No more than 42 credit hours (including the common first-year courses) may be at the 1000 level.
