BUSI 1917U – Mathematics of Dependent Relationships in Business This course provides a mathematical foundation for the study of dependent relationships in business, such as those used in pricing model creation, marketing decision-making, workplace policy development, supply chain optimization, profitability analysis, and others. Students will learn techniques used to develop representations of dependent relationships in business by employing the mathematical concept of a function and applying it to business decisions using predictive analytics and data visualization. Students will study the characteristics of basic types of functions, and will apply those characteristics in determining the appropriate models for the given relationship. The course is focused on conceptual and data-based reasoning using real-life data, providing the fundamental analytical skills necessary in business. Graphing and data software are used throughout the course to facilitate the visualization of relationships and problem-solving. The problems discussed in this course will address quantitative business relationships, as well as relationships arising from consideration of organizational policy and decision-making, with responsibility for social and environmental sustainability in mind.
