ENGR 5162G - Microfluidics

Introduction to microfluidic systems including advantages from miniaturization and applications in energy, environmental, and biomedical devices. Non‐dimensionalization and scaling analysis to understand the relevant physics and solve problems at the microscale. Microscale flow theory and transport phenomena. Stokes flow, diffusion, and mixing strategies at the microscale. The theory and application of surface tension, capillary action, and hydrophobic surfaces. Mathematical approximation and numerical simulations will be used to solve microfluidics‐based problems. Fabrication and experimental techniques for analysis of microscale systems. State‐of‐the‐art microfluidic systems.
