NUCL 5225G - Nuclear Fuel Engineering


This course covers introductory and advanced topics in nuclear fuel engineering that are of practical interest to the nuclear industry in regards to performance and safety. Course material will begin with fundamental theories and end with content of specific interest to industry. Typical fuel phenomena that will be investigated include heat transfer, structural mechanics, grain growth, and fission gas release. Other performance and safety related events that will be discussed include pellet cladding interaction, defective fuel conditions, grid-to-rod-fretting, CRUD formation, loss of coolant accidents, corium behaviour, etc. NUCL 4810U is recommended as a prerequisite but is not required.
