HLSC 2702U – Quantitative Reasoning for Kinesiology


The purpose of this course is to provide students with foundational knowledge in mathematics and physics that they need to succeed in the kinesiology program. The course covers basic mathematics concepts including manipulation of algebraic equations needed to solve problems in biomechanics, ergonomics, and exercise physiology, conversion of units, and the use of trigonometry to add biomechanical force vectors. Foundational knowledge of biomechanics such as one and two dimensional kinematics, forces and free body diagrams, conservation of energy, conservation of momentum, and levers in the body are also covered. Finally, students are taught how to use software such as Excel to analyze and interpret different types of data sets.
