Program Learning Outcomes - Materials Science, PhD

By the end of the program, students graduating will be able to:

Use advanced concepts from subfields of Materials Chemistry, Physics, and/or Engineering in order to respond to disciplinary challenges.
Implement experimental, computational, or theoretical techniques to lead the study and development of advanced materials.
Evaluate the strengths and limitations of experimental or theoretical techniques used in materials science.
Assess the quality of research proposals, procedures and publications in materials science to situate the work in the field.
Develop and implement a data management plan for acquiring, analyzing and interpreting field-relevant experimental and/or theoretical data.
Effectively communicate ideas, concepts, and content from the materials sciences in ways that are appropriate for diverse audiences.
Identify problems, opportunities, and/or knowledge gaps that can be addressed with available expertise in order to direct research.
