EDST 3250U – Pedagogical Approaches to Canadian History through Literature

This course examines Canadian history through literature, exploring how novels, poetry, plays and other texts reflect and shape historical events, movements, and identities. Through thematic and historical lenses, students will critically engage with literary works representing key Canadian historical moments, including Indigenous-settler relations, immigration, nation-building, and social justice. By combining literary analysis with principles of historical thinking, students will investigate how Canadian literature both reveals and constructs historical understanding, offering diverse perspectives on the past.
Credit hours: 3
Lecture hours: 2
Tutorial hours: 1.5
Prerequisite(s): EDST 2200U and EDST 2250U
