EDST 3200U – Youth Literature in Educational Contexts


This course explores youth literature through thematic lenses, examining texts that have shaped young adult readers across cultures and generations, focusing on Canadian contributions. Students will engage with key themes such as identity, coming of age, social justice, and the role of fantasy while also considering youth literature’s historical and cultural contexts. The course will emphasize critical literary analysis, encouraging students to connect themes to broader social issues and reflect on the power of storytelling in shaping young minds. Through readings, discussions, and assignments, students will develop the ability to critically evaluate youth literature and its application in educational contexts.
