EDST 3050U – Foundations of Teaching English

This course introduces teaching English as an additional language, focusing on the foundational principles of additional language acquisition and their application to effective instruction. Students will explore the linguistic, psychological, and socio-cultural factors that shape language learning alongside a thorough examination of English semantics, syntax, and phonology. With this knowledge, students will design and implement authentic, engaging, and learner-centered teaching strategies tailored to diverse needs, interests, and experiences. Through reflection and practice, students will develop a multidisciplinary approach to creating inclusive and inspiring learning environments for English language learners.
