EDST 2250U – (Re)Thinking Canadian History for Educational Contexts

This course supports students in weaving reconciliation thinking into different educational settings by reading and thinking critically about the multivocal stories of individuals, groups, and communities who contributed to, transgressed, challenged, and disrupted the concept of Canada. Students will investigate the diverse contributions of Indigenous Peoples, settlers and immigrants, gender peoples, and women to the nation by using inquiry-based learning and case studies to historicize the diversity and complexity of  Canadian society in the second half of the twentieth century. Drawing on primary sources and inquiry-based methods, students will also research the key events and processes that shaped modern Canada after 1945, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Quiet Revolution, constitutional reform, and the pressures of Canada’s vast geography and regionalism.
