EDST 4540U – Learning in Community


What can a community teach us about anti-racism, inclusion, and social change? In this course, students will have an opportunity to learn about different types of global communities, including those that are only online. Students will learn about historical and current community models while engaging with concepts such as belonging, sustainability, desegregation, and resistance. Students will be introduced to the principles of community-based research and learn how to conduct this type of research in an ethical manner. This course has experiential components that include a walking tour (in person and online) of a specific community. Students will also create an audio walking tour of the community of their choice and have the opportunity to showcase their work to the greater community.

Prerequisite(s): EDST 2500U  and third- or fourth-year standing
