EDST 4130U – Pop Culture and Education

In this course, students will examine the influence of pop culture on children, youth and adults while learning how it can be used successfully as a pedagogical tool in diverse educational contexts. Students will have the opportunity to critically interrogate various pop culture artifacts, such as comics, video games, and graphic novels while participating in experiential learning opportunities that include the collaborative and individual production of pop culture artifacts. This course will also explore pop culture through an equity lens giving students the tools to identify how pop culture shapes, reinforces and challenges oppression and exclusion.

Prerequisite(s): EDST 1000U and third- or fourth-year standing
