BIOL 2080U – Biochemistry I This course examines the chemical nature of the building blocks found in cells. The topics covered include an overview of organic chemistry principles that relate to biological systems; protein structures and functions; enzymes thermodynamics, kinetics and regulation; lipids structures and functions; role of lipids and proteins in the structure of biological membranes; nucleotides and the structure of nucleic acids; the biochemistry of DNA replication, transcription and translation; carbohydrate structures and functions, and introduction to metabolism.
