KINE 4478U – Advanced Ergonomics and Human Factors


The purpose of this course is to explore advanced issues in ergonomics and human factors. This course builds on the skills developed in KINE 4475U – Occupational Ergonomics  to provide a deeper understanding of strengths and limitations of workplace injury risk assessment. Students will critically appraise the emerging physical ergonomics scientific literature and use these approaches to analyze complex work tasks. Students will be required to defend their ergonomics and human factors recommendations from both an injury risk and cost-benefit perspective. Students will also develop seminars on topics related to industrial hygiene and cognitive ergonomics/human factors, and conduct a major field-based analysis to translate theoretical knowledge into practice. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with the tools needed to become a professional ergonomist.
