CRMN 2010U – Criminal Law This course examines the nature, purpose, scope, sources and basic principles of criminal law within their historical and contemporary context. Among the topics are the constitutional foundations and due process of law, offences under the Criminal Code, available defences and principles of sentencing. The impact of law on various groups in society and the role of law in social control and social change will also be discussed. Students will gain substantive knowledge of Canadian criminal law as well as develop a critical perspective on issues of criminal law.
