HLSC 2802U – Introduction to the Canadian Healthcare System Healthcare in Canada is publicly funded and privately delivered. The purpose of this course is to understand the evolution of Canada’s healthcare delivery and financing from a theoretical perspective, which examines the role of ideas, the perspective of key stakeholders and the legislative role of key federal initiatives. Key to the learning experience is the conceptualization of the role of public and private sector, impact of medical dominance and the biomedical model, citizen engagement, primary healthcare reform and the emergence of public health.
