CSCI 1800U – Computing Tools for Health Science This course covers the use of various software tools for use in the UOIT web centric and laptop environment in certain programs within the Faculty of Health Science. It may be taken in place of CSCI 1000U Scientific Computing Tools by students in the Health Science program who are not planning on taking physics or mathematics courses. Modules will be included on: scientific graphing, document processing and basic graphics tools, data management (spreadsheets and databases), web authoring tools, and scientific presentations. Most of the software items are pre-installed on the laptops, but some will be accessed remotely via the web. Practical use and application of the tools will include health related situations. Credit hours: 3 Lecture hours: 1.5 Tutorial hours: 1.5 Prerequisite(s): Enrolment in the Health Science program, or background and interest in science Credit restriction(s): CSCI 1000U Note(s): This course is offered in a hybrid format, involving lectures, tutorials, as well as online self-learning material.
