CRMN 2850U – Classical Theories of Crime This course introduces students to the classical canon of criminological theory, including the broader sociological theories from which they are derived. Grounded within a socio-historical context, the course will survey the major criminological theories that have arisen from the Enlightenment through to the post-World War Two period. Particular emphasis will be placed on the critical analysis of classical theories as well as its historical and contemporary application. This course will also discuss the fundamentals of good theory building and testing in order to prepare students for more advanced course work.
