COMM 2530U – Advertising and Society Why are ads so effective at persuading people to buy things? What makes the brands of Apple, Microsoft, Google and Coca-Cola so pervasive and popular? How does advertising drive developments in communications, entertainment and digital media? What theories, debates and controversies surround advertising? Students address these and related questions by exploring the economic, political, cultural, semiotic, ecological and ethical dimensions of advertising in a global consumer society.
