HLSC 5111G - Public Policy and Health Promotion

Using a health promotion lens, students examine all stages of the policy-making process (agenda-setting, legislation and regulation, implementation and evaluation). Emphasis is placed on understanding, at each phase of the process, the formal and informal relationships that are developed among actors within and outside government. Where possible, Canadian case studies are used to demonstrate facilitators and barriers to building policy making capacities at multiple levels: individual, community, organization and system. Readings from a variety of international jurisdictions augment the case study material.
