HLSC 2130U – Principles of Infection Prevention and Control

The course will introduce students to the basic principles of infection prevention and control. Students will learn the nature of the chain of infection and modes of transmission of infectious diseases, core infection control competencies, environmental health and food safety. Both adaptive and innate immune responses will be investigated. The emphasis will be on hospital and community acquired infectious diseases and the organisms which cause them including surveillance, prevention, control and data management of these diseases.
